In any kind of situation, in a game, confrontation, business, among others, people use their own strategies to come out victorious. The same applies for SEO. Although what you will be reading are not really hidden secrets, in fact almost everybody knows them, the list itself will remind you of the things that you should be doing in order to give your site a competitive edge in the SEO world.

This will be the first of the three part sequel of the basic, yet very important, SEO tricks.

With so many competition out there using the same set of keywords, it somehow difficult to have your website stand out among the rest. Imagine it like being in a wet market where vendors are selling the same kind of product, thus using the same term to call for buyers. In this sea of voices, how can your own voice stand out? This is where landing pages come in. What landing pages do is they add pages to each keyword that your page uses. These pages are very much optimized using any kind of SEO tips available. Since it is heavily optimized, these landing pages become high ranking in search engines, also pulling the main site where they are connected to.  The main idea about landing pages is to always secure their connection with your site, otherwise, spiders may not be able to index them.

Titles are very important in search engine rankings. The titles are used to signal search engines what information the site promises to convey. Thus, the first sixty characters in your title should be keyword focused. For example, instead of having the brand name or company name stated first, go for the keywords. If in traditional marketing, titles or tag lines are phrased as “Clean: The stain killer”, in the online world, it would become “Stain Remover Perfected With Clean”. If you notice, instead of stain killer, the phrase stain remover was used. This is grounded on the assumption that the term “stain killer” is used to locate products such as Clean.

In marketing, repetition of terms increases retention. The same can also apply in SEO. However, it is not only plain repetition but it should be repetition coupled with emphasis. First, you have to identify the most powerful search term for your website. Before starting with the body, place a header before it where the search word would be strategically placed. Then on the first paragraph of the body, the search term should be placed, again in a strategic manner, this time formatted in bold.

Keywords are important in getting to that top most coveted spot in search engine rankings. Yet, before you can actually see your site on the top list, you need to make sure that you have chosen the best keywords there are. Choosing the wrong keywords would only cause you to plummet more in the search engine rankings.]

First thing that you have to consider would be the cost of a keyword. Choosing the appropriate keywords is like making a purchase. Just think of these words as a form of a return investment. The higher the competitiveness of a keyword, the more effort you put into it to make it soar to the top of the rankings. With this said, you would see that a keyword’s worth is partly dependent on how popular it is among websites. Thus it would be a good idea if you search for keywords according to how much they are worth.

Aside from the cost, the possible number of traffic that a keyword could generate is another factor that you should consider. The question now is how you can find out which keywords bring a huge amount of traffic. An approach that you can use would be to utilize keyword research tools such as WordTracker, GoogleAdwords and the likes.

For tools similar to WordTracker, they usually get some criticism of not being too reliable. It is said that some of the data on keywords are not so reliable. Google Adwords on the other hand gets a more positive review.

Once you get a handful of keywords that could most likely give your site a positive ranking, it is now time for you to choose which keywords you should prioritize. First, you have to make use of your gut feel and place yourself in the shoes of prospect clients and think what would be the keywords that people would use in order to get to your site. Then, from this gut feel, also ask your customers what keywords they used to get to your site. Also, keyword suggestion from the keyword research tools and PPC campaign in Google AdWords would also help you have a clearer idea of what keywords to use.
