One of the most important things that web design tips should always remind web designers is the ease that users experience when navigating in a site. Some ecommerce web designs tend to forget that websites are meant for people, especially possible customers, to use. Websites are made so that users can have a place to look for specific information they want to find out. Thus, if users find it difficult to navigate their way in your website, it defeats the main purpose of putting a website. That is why you should make sure that your website, may it be from a top web design firm or from an affordable web design, is very user-friendly in terms of navigation.

Here are the things that you should put into mind if you want to make your users’ website experience a walk in the park.

  1. Logos should link back to the homepage. This would be your way of giving your users the easiest route to go back to the main page of your site instead of making them look for the button that says HOME.
  2. Research says that the most viewed part of a web page is the top and left part near the header. Thus, it is only ideal that you place your navigation system near or in these areas. If you think that you have a better way of directing viewer’s attention in other areas, then you may place the navigation system somewhere else.
  3. Consistency on how your navigation system is designed also builds familiarity among users. That is why it is best that you stick to one common design in your navigation system all thought the pages of your website. This will make it easier for users to locate where they would click in order to go from one site to another.
  4. Never hesitate to place “Home” or “Homepage” button wherever you think it is necessary, especially in places where you think the user would most likely want to go back to homepage for some more information.
  5. Minimize the number of clicks required to move from a page to another page around three. The lesser number of clicks it needs to move from one page to another, the better.

Here are but just some of the top five tips that you can use to make your site appeal to users. The key idea is to make users life in terms of navigation very, very easy.

In the web designing field, it is not true at all that “if you don’t have natural flair, you have to learn it” because in actuality, you really have to study it. You see, usually the passionate web design beginner would try to implement all the designs and images that he/she has thought of. That is normal and that is true for most but as time progresses, the newbie web designer would notice that the website hasn’t really achieved its full potential. It’s not that you can achieve the full potential of the web site at the beginning but having to consider the standards and theory of web designing, you can easily achieve that goal and you won’t have to waste extra effort.

So, here are some tips that will hopefully help you improve your Web Designs.

Have a Fool Proof Web Design

Navigation

Try to make your navigation to be clear and simple. Flash buttons are ok, as long as they don’t have too much animations and special effects. The main menu should either be on top or on the upper left side. If you put it anywhere than that, expect a confused and less interested visitor.

Meaningful Icons/Images

Another way to fool proof your web site is to use icons and images effectively. Images should be easy to distinguish and has a purpose behind it. For example the RSS icon, it shouldn’t have any other icon design than the common one that most people are used to because will not be able to find where your RSS button is and this could potentially increase the risk of missing potential customers and fans.

Fast Loading Time

How? Simple, optimize your RSS and use vector images but use as little as to no image at all! Any way, vector images have lower file sizes and has transparency, it’s perfect for making a low file size web site. Low file size just easily translate to fast loading time. What you need to do is just use color codes for backgrounds and use just your imagination and creativity. Effective use of colors and images would really make your web design look great, simple and fast. Best example is Twitter which, on their backgrounds, they just use color codes and the simple images are just vector graphics. Also notice Google, (aside from its powerful search engine) its simplicity and light design makes it a very popular search website.

Clean and organized advertisements

When you’re planning on making money with your website, be sure to properly place the ads. Advertisements drive a lot of people away. Avoid, pop up ads as it is one of the most annoying thing ever created in web advertisements.
