As a web design beginner, most of us want to incorporate lots of web design tips and put them into the web page. This is good. Ideas are good. Ideas are what top web design firms and affordable web design have in common. However, there is one problem. Most of these result to a cluttered, unorganized web page mess. Most people don’t like this kind of design because such designs give you a feeling of chaos and these designs are just too strong for the eyes. Probably one the grunge-new-age-uber-graphic designer (if there is one) can appreciate it (although, even they may disagree). Well, I may be exaggerating a lot on its bad side because it does have its merits.

Anyway, most of the time, people just want to see a plain and simple website. Not too simple, but just subtle and pleasing to the eyes. So here are some tips to make a Clean and Simple Web Design

Try to incorporate the use of white spaces in your design. I cannot emphasize this enough, use “white space”. Not literally the white space of course, but use good spacing between your page elements. Don’t cram images on to one another or have texts so close to each other. Let your design breathe, give it space. If you are thinking about the concept of wasting space, then do not fret because there is no such thing. That’s why you have scroll bars in the first place.

Make use of simple navigation. Being creative on the navigation is good, but don’t overdo it – it might just push visitors away. Keep your navigation clear and simple so that visitors can easily find what they are looking for. Make your navigation obvious especially when you think that the link is important and is probably what the visitors are after. It is also important to put categories if your website is large, an interested visitor would likely click on it.

Do not waste time on including useless images in your design. Create useful images that actually serve a purpose or covey the meaning or theme of your website. Like for example, instead of the text RSS, have a simple custom image of the icon. That way, people will see it. It is also important to minimize the use of graphics as they make the viewing of the site more difficult and confusing. .

Contrasting can make wonders in the over all look of your website. Yes, implement a good text and image contrast and it can easily look like a professional design. It’s the secret to make a good looking web site. Emphasize important links and people will likely click on it. And no, I’m not just talking about blue colored links and black font over white background.

If you plan to go into the web designing business then it’s best if you follow the trend. It’s not actually a trend but its sort of a common understanding based on visitor’s behavior. Even you, the designer know that, simple designs that are cool to the eyes and comfortable to browse around are the best.

Business means money and the more visitors you have, the more money comes in to your business. If a visitor won’t even take a look at your website for a minute then you know what it means. A lot of people like to view web pages that are refreshing to the eyes. Making a clean and easy to look at website, here are the tips you might want to try.

Color Scheme – It’s like designing a t-shirt, choose a color scheme and don’t use too many colors. Keeping it simple and consistent with your color scheme will make you web design look professional. If you don’t know how a good color combination, just search for beautiful web templates and pick the one you like. You don’t copy the design of course, just use the color it was using OR if you don’t like that idea, just pick a beautiful picture and get the effective colors that it has.

Subtle Special Effects - When used right, a simple picture would be smashing to look at! Think carefully as to where, how and even why when using special effects. Some special effects would shatter the look of your design or it could change the idea or theme. As much as possible, don’t use effects that would catch too much attention of the visitor especially near or on your content.

Background – Remember, a background is just a background not a the whole desktop wallpaper. A simple pattern can make a very good background. Web designers should also avoid making backgrounds that messes with the text color. Backgrounds should emphasize the quality of the content and not overlap it.

Navigation System – It’s not a very hard thing to do, but it is worth mentioning. The web design should have a good navigation system. Make it look important or rather make it look clear and clickable to get the interest of the visitor. It should also contain links that would easily lead the visitor to where they are interested in, like categories. Also, add a search bar so visitors can use it whenever they can’t easily find what they are looking for on your web site.
