Follow the Grid

As you may have already known, we web designers follow as certain pattern and one of these is using grids. Grids are useful not only to newspapers but also to web pages. It makes web designing easier and still stay on standards. It also makes content more organized and easy on the eyes.

Typography

Using the right font and color combination easily makes a website look professional. A lot of web designers today give a lot of importance to typography. You see, it’s not just readability. Typography plays an important role in design and mood.

Don’t Overdo Gradients

Gradients are nice, a wrong implementation could lead to an amateurish look though. Simple and easy on the eyes, this is the most effective way to use gradients. Make it look like you never added a gradient. The subtler it is, the more effective it gets.

Navigation

Having a clear and useful navigation is one way to make a user stay or click some more. Cool animations and mind blowing navigation designs are good, only if it’s effective. Truth is, most people just browse a while and then click away. Design a navigation that piques a visitor’s interest if not then offer an easy access search bar to your site.

Footers

There are some instances that some web designers don’t even think about making a good footer. They just add a link and a good looking footer design and that’s all. Well, never underestimate the footer. It’s the only space where you could put information and credentials about your site or sites you want to promote without looking messy.

White Space

What is white space? White space is the space between your web elements. I think you know how it is when looking at a crammed website, most visitors dislike seeing a whole web page stuffed with all the elements into a small area. Having good spacing eases the eyes and also makes your content look more organized and professional. Spaces will add a soothing and calm feel to your design and will make your visitors feel comfortable.

So you think you already know everything you need to know about web designing. Well, it is never wrong to learn more. These web design tips do not give much information on the technicalities of web designing. However, these tips tell you those important things that are often left out by some web design tips.

It does not mean that since it is the Internet that some laws of the land are already not applicable. You do not like it when people steal whatever you worked hard for. Thus, it would not be appropriate if you go on using contents that are not yours. Stealing content is also very bad for your strategy because once search engines notice that what you have is just a ripped-off, they will automatically give you a low rating.

Hotlinking happens when you link pictures, videos and music files in your own site. Not only could you become liable for copyright problems but it can also be considered as stealing bandwidth. Hotlinking is usually frowned at because it is one reason why some site’s visitor statistics get confusing. They get visit stat every time somebody clicks the links of the file you hotlinked without that visitor going to the owner site itself. It can also be a bad step for your site. Since you do not have any control of the hotlinked files, if the webmaster changes the image, music or video in that link, most probably, these files will not compliment the page where you placed them.

If you want to link a site to your site, then just do it right away. Although it is better if you ask permission from the owner of that site, it is not wrong either to just link the site right away. One of the reasons why that site was made public in the first place is because it wants to be shown to a lot of people. By linking that site to your site, you are actually doing the owner of that site a favor.

The best way to have your link appear in other site is to make it an authority of the subject matter it uses. Asking for link exchange is not only annoying but, at times, ridiculous. If other sites want to see your link appear in their site, they would just put the link right away, without questions. Just focus on making your website really, really good than sending emails to webmasters to have link exchanges. Anyway, if your site is not that good either, they would not be so keen on having their link appear in your site.
