Most people think that doing business online is just a piece of cake. It’s much easier than conventional business because you hold much power in terms of information dissemination and it has a wide scope of audience creating more and more prospect customers. It is because of these that the big gap between big scale and small business has somewhat narrowed down. However, it is also because of these that a lot of people tend to take ecommerce business lightly, thus resulting to a big downfall.
To name a few of the common ecommerce business mistakes, here are some of them:
At your end
Any business starts with the effort in marketing. To start a business rolling, it must be well-publicized for everybody to know that it exists. Although the rules of the game are still the same with the conventional businesses (aka offline), there are additional tricks of the trade that are commonly used, and sadly, these are what most ecommerce business people forget.
Now, let say, marketing was successful and people are already starting to notice a website and the services or products of that website. What’s next? This where the second problem comes in. A lot of ecommerce businesses do not make any actions in sustaining their visitors and customers. No actions are done to make customers stay on visiting or patronizing the website. One way of doing this is to keep a website appear fresh always, with new services and products to offer.
Compatibility of a product in the online market is also not considered. Not all products can be easily sold online and most ecommerce businesses fail without even knowing this fact.
At your customer’s end
Infrequent testing leads to a lot of problems in website maintenance. Errors in websites annoy customers and if it becomes frequent, some customers tend to go to your competitors whose websites are more stable.
Let’s face it. Tedious checkout procedures do not appeal to customers. Also, experiencing unsatisfactory encounters with the customer service is a big turn down. And, most of all, when they experience nay problems with the products, customers tend to bad mouth your site. Not being able to properly take care of the customers lead to serious complications.
Another thing that irritates customers is the privacy policy issues. It’s quite natural that since you are doing business, you are expected to offer security. If you can’t do so, then you might as well not venture in ecommerce business. Some websites take for granted their user interface, but this is where most of the transactions happen. If customers find it difficult to navigate in your site, chances are they would be able to follow procedures properly, or worse, just stop in the middle of the transaction.
