If you are bothered as to how you could check if the payment gateway that you have chosen is reliable, here is a checklist of questions that you could use to help you with the scrutiny process.

Length and Quality of Experience. Make your own research on this one. Find out any legal records that could point you as to the length of experience the company of the payment gateways has. The length of experience will give you an idea that, if they have been in business for years, then they would have a substantial number of customers. And, a substantial number of customers will tell you that service of a certain company is commendable. As for the quality of experience, try to check if there is a lot of withdrawal history from customers. You do not need to be a rocket scientist to know what to do if ever you find out they have a lot of records of withdrawals from customers.

The Software’s History. The longer the software has been in the market, the better. Always be warned of newly release software no matter how the company ties to sugar-coat it with all the advantages it the software has. The newer the software is, the higher its tendency to have a lot of bugs because of not too much testing.

Ability To Be Test Driven. Always ask for this one. See for yourself first how it works before you use it. Have it drive tested by the company. If they refuse to show everything, then there should be something fishy about that software. If a company is confident with the payment gateway they are endorsing, what would hold them back from showing everything?

The Scope of Availability. This refers to the time when the payment gateway can be installed in your online shop. Within one week would be the most reasonable duration.

The Price Of Setup and Service. If they can’t give you specifics of prices in terms of setup and services, then it could be to your disadvantage. Eventually, you will just end up wondering why your bill is not exactly how much you estimated it to be. BE aware of hidden fees and such.

Asking For List Of The Gateway’s Customers and Contact Information. Always ask for other businesses that have also availed of the payment gateway that you have chosen. Ask for some contact information of these businesses. Ask theses business hwo atisfied they are with the payment gateway they have chosen.

In using these questions, you will have a good idea of how well a certain payment could perform in accordance to the needs of your online store.
