Most people have this wrong notion about affiliate marketing. They think that by just placing other site’s links or banners, they can already earn some profit. Yes, they do but not enough to compensate for the time, effort and money that they invested to generate traffic.
Here are some tips for the newbies in affiliate marketing.
- How to promote your site – Make sure that you make your site popular because nobody will be interested to use your site for promotions if only you and your mom knows that it exists. In fact, 500 unique visits a day is highly recommended. The most hype method now is through social network marketing. However, you can also use blogs, forums, pay per click campaigns, and the good old search engine optimization techniques. Rememeber, it does not really matter how many methods you use, it’s how effectively you use those methods to do your promotion. Each method requires a certain kind of mastery and finesse that you should be able to master.
- Choosing who to promote – The general rule is you get to advertise all people EXCEPT for some. These are the exemptions: (a) people whose affiliate program is in their landing page especially if it’s at the top of the page; and, (b) if the material used for marketing includes the URL of the company. Why? The former would just steal the limelight from your site and the latter would make your site useless because people will just use the URL link to go directly to the company’s site.
- Promote in demand products or services– It has always been the basics of business. Go for products or services that people are already looking for so that there are chances that people will be the ones looking for your site.
- Know to whom you should do the promotion – Get demographics of who the target customers are for a certain product or site that you are promoting. In fact, in choosing which product or services to promote, it would be ideal if you thin who the possible customers are and if they are easy to get. If these customers are indeed easy to get, that’s the time you decide on promoting the site. Then, research on the usual ads they respond to and the ads that they are most likely to notice and encounter.
